Veteran social activist Dr. Baba Adhav has launched a three-day hunger strike at the historic Mahatma Phule Wada, condemning the rising threats to democracy and justice in the country. With his powerful message, Dr. Adhav has called upon citizens to take an active stand against the erosion of democratic principles, emphasizing the need for collective action to safeguard the Constitution.
“Democracy is being stripped bare in the country today,” Dr. Adhav remarked. “In protest, I am undertaking this hunger strike as an act of self-purification under the rights granted by the Constitution. It’s time for citizens to step out onto the streets. If necessary, we will have to resort to satyagraha against this government.”
The hunger strike, which began on Thursday and will continue until November 30, was supported by prominent leaders and activists, including Nitin Pawar and Sandesh Bhandare from the Rickshaw Panchayat. Dr. Adhav criticized the Prime Minister for backing industrialist Adani during ongoing controversies while avoiding crucial parliamentary discussions, calling this behavior “disgraceful.”
He also raised serious concerns about the misuse of government funds during assembly elections, urging citizens to resist being influenced by monetary tactics. Pointing to frequent inconsistencies in vote-counting statistics, Dr. Adhav questioned the reliability of EVMs and highlighted the deliberate fueling of Hindu-Muslim conflicts to distract from core issues. “The power of democracy lies in the voice of even a single individual,” he declared, encouraging the public to speak out against injustice.
Unity Among Changemakers
Dr. Baba Adhav’s hunger strike has drawn support from influential figures across various fields. Notable visitors included student leader Nishant Deshmukh, Ambedkarite activist Abed Sayyed, young anti-caste thinker Rushikesh Khandale, and Onkar Pawar. Their meeting with Dr. Adhav symbolized the growing unity among changemakers in their fight for justice, equality, and democratic integrity.
This hunger strike serves as a clarion call for citizens to recognize their democratic power and take action against growing injustices. Dr. Adhav’s courageous stand has become a beacon of hope for many, inspiring movements across the nation to protect the values of justice and equality enshrined in the Constitution.
